Ontario Entrepreneur Stream
This stream is for entrepreneurs from outside Canada interested in starting a new business or buying an existing business in Ontario.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this stream, candidates must meet the following criterion at the time their application is mailed to the OINP.
- Experience & business ownership:
Candidates must prove that they have at least 24 months of full-time business experience in the last 60 months.
- Net worth:
Candidates must have a minimum personal net worth. If their proposed business is to be located:
– within the Greater Toronto Area (City of Toronto and Durham, Halton, York and Peel regions) they must have a minimum personal net worth of $800,000 Canadian
– outside of the Greater Toronto Area, they must have a minimum personal net worth of $400,000 Canadian
- Business proposal:
You must submit a business proposal to establish a new business or purchase of an existing business in Ontario.
- Ownership percentage:
At least one-third (33.33%)
- Investment:
Candidates must make minimum investments in their business from their personal net worth. If their proposed business is to be located:
– within the Greater Toronto Area, they must make a minimum personal investment of $600,000;
– outside of the Greater Toronto Area, they must make a minimum personal investment of $200,000.
If the proposed business is in the information and communications technology/digital communications sector then regardless of location, candidates must make a minimum personal investment of $200,000.
- Job creation:
If the business is to be located inside the Greater Toronto Area candidates must create at least two permanent full-time jobs for Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
If the business is to be located outside the Greater Toronto Area or in the information and communications technology or digital communications sector, regardless of location candidates must create at least one permanent full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Language requirement:
Minimum of CLB 4 equivalent in English or French. Candidates must submit a copy of valid language proficiency test results at final report (if not previously submitted).
